Should We Use Moltbot Now or Wait?

Every few months, a new AI tool catches our attention, and Moltbot is among them. At first, it might seem like just another AI assistant, but after spending time understanding its capabilities, it becomes clear that it offers something unique. Moltbot isn’t an app you open.

It’s an AI agent that runs on your machine (a Mac mini, to be specific). Moltbot is an open-source AI agent that runs locally on your Mac mini and operates continuously in messaging platforms like Telegram or WhatsApp. Unlike most AI tools that live in the cloud, Moltbot runs on your computer. That means:

  • It has access to your local files.
  • It can interact with your apps.
  • It can execute terminal commands.
  • It can browse the web.
  • It can send messages on your behalf.
  • It can automate recurring tasks.

And you control all of this through chat. According to HubSpot co-founder Dharmesh, most AI tools make users pause their work, open a separate interface, explain their context, and then manually insert results into their workflow. Moltbot changes this by coming to you—and, more importantly, taking action directly.

Why This Feels Like a Glimpse of the Future

Moltbot shows us what happens when an AI agent has the same level of access to a computer that a human does. It remembers context across sessions.

It builds an understanding of your preferences.

It doesn’t just generate text — it takes action. From a technology standpoint, this is a major shift. We’re moving from: “AI that helps you think.” to: “AI that helps you do.”

Why Most People Should Probably Wait

As impressive as Moltbot is, here’s why it may not be ready for most users. This is still a young project. Giving an experimental AI agent deep access to your main computer, accounts, and messages introduces real risk. If you’re curious, however, consider using a secondary device or virtual machine as a much safer testing environment.

It’s also likely that OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or Microsoft will ship similar agent-style systems soon. When they do, we can expect:

  • Stronger permission models
  • Clearer security boundaries
  • Easier setup
  • Enterprise-ready safeguards
  • Brand trust that IT teams can actually sign off on

Given its capabilities and risks, is it better to use Moltbot now as an early adopter, or wait for tools with stronger safeguards and broader support? This is the key decision facing potential users. So, should we use Moltbot now? Here is my answer.Yes — if you’re technical and curious If you enjoy tinkering, understand security, and want a hands-on look at where AI agents are headed, Moltbot is an incredible learning tool. You’ll gain firsthand insight into how autonomous systems behave. Just as we welcomed ChatGPT into our daily lives, Moltbot could pave the way for a new era of action-oriented AI agents.
